Typically I’ll drip out my new Christmas arrangements one by one as I get them finished, but this year I thought I’d try giving you a full glimpse of what’s coming so you can plan your Christmas worship more effectively.

Over the next few weeks I’ll release each of these arrangements in their full form with praise band demos, multitracks and instrumental parts.

These piano/vocal demos will give you a rough idea of how the arrangements will sound, plus you can hear how well they work with just a piano and acoustic guitar. Keep this in mind for your Christmas Eve Service where you might lose your entire band and need to pull off that service with just a piano and vocal! The next step is to mix in drums and guitars.

I’ve written a new melody for the lyrics to What Child Is This, giving it more of a Bethel/Hillsong vibe. This is my favorite hymn rewrite to date – I’m super proud of it and anticipate it being a favorite for modern worship services this December.

I’ve arranged these two carols to have the same tempo, key and feel. You can use these separately or together as a medley.

This is my third take on Silent Night, arranged specifically for modern worship.

Christmas Day is on Sunday this year so I thought it would be a good time to create this modern version (my last arrangement for this carol was back in 2005.) Notice it’s similar to This Is Christ the King. Try using This Is Christ the King earlier in your Christmas worship and end the service with I Heard the Bells to tie everything together!

The Hymncharts Timeline

Now that hymncharts is twenty years old this year (can you believe it!) I’m seeing how things are playing out over the decades! Every ten years or so, as worship styles change, I’ll continue to re-arrange the most popular hymns and carols to suit the current style – this is why you see two or more versions of the same hymns and carols available on the website. My earliest arrangements from 2002 have a more classic/blended feel, arrangements from the middle age of hymncharts have a Paul Baloche/pop feel and now I’m entering the Bethel/Elevation modern worship sound.
